AU Grid Solar Project

Fixing Pipelines

The Africa Union project dubbed “Potential of distributed grid-connected solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems in rural electrification in Africa” which was supported by the Africa Union with an amount of €934,056.60 is completed. This project sought to demonstrate the potential of distributed grid-connected solar PV systems in rural electrification schemes/projects for improved affordability and sustainable energy access.

As part of its activities, the project has installed an Automatic Weather Station in Walewale (Northern Ghana) for monitoring solar radiation and other parameters. The procurement process was underway for the installation of 30 kWp grid-connected systems in the same area.

Mr. Emmanuel Anto of the Department of Electrical Engineering is the Coordinator of this project. Project partners were the University of Botswana and the University of Flensburg, Germany.
