Energy Access for the Urban Poor

The study on Energy Access for the Urban Poor (EAfUP) was successfully closed following the final dissemination workshop in November 2012 and a visit by the Task Leader, Dr Venkata Ramana Putti of the World Bank Energy Sector Management Assistance Programme (ESMAP). Dr S. Rudith King of the College of Architecture and Planning coordinated this project and supported by Mr David Ato Quansah of the Mechanical Engineering Department. This project was supported with US$75,000 by ESMAP.

A survey to address gaps in data on energy access for rural and urban areas in Ghana was commissioned by the UNDP-Senegal country office and implemented by The Energy Center, KNUST in three regions in Ghana viz. Northern, Greater Accra and Ashanti regions. Dr. Rudith King was the principal investigator while Mr. Owusu Amponsah served as the project coordinator. The UNDP was required to support the project with an amount of USD29,300. The final project report has since been submitted to the UNDP.
