Name of the Project/ActivitySolar Export Potential Study

Value of contract: $50 000

Years of project duration: 8 months (August, 2013 to March, 2014)

Countries covered:  Ghana and Burkina Faso

Short project description:  The main objective of this study is to assess the export potential from solar power (including component manufacture/assembly) in Ghana. The output of this study will facilitate an understanding of the opportunities, investment requirements and policy measures required to attain the objectives of Ghana’s Renewable Energy (RE) Law (Act 832).

The specific objectives are:

  1. Assessment of the environmental and socio-economic effects of solar power exports from Ghana;
  2. Assessment of the technical and financial feasibility of solar power exports from Ghana to neighboring West African countries;
  3. Analysis of Ghana’s current and future potential to contribute to the solar PV value chain;
  4. Identification of policy measures and private/public initiatives that will be needed for Ghana to realize its solar power and solar PV technology potential.
